When the project is threatened, Nagel decides to prove the car’s viability in the prestigious Monaco Rally. The move could bring the Russo-Balt project to an end. Directed by Ilya Malanin.
Trivia (6)
- Filming took place in Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast, Moscow, and Montenegro. The scenes on the French Riviera were shot in a studio, while the circular mud race was filmed at an airfield near the city of Lyuban in Leningrad Oblast.
- 10 cars from 1908 — 1912 were designed and built from scratch for filming. In addition, around 25 historic cars were used during filming in Russia, and the same number during filming in Europe.
- The idea for the film came to Ilya Malanin after he read an article about the origins of the domestic automobile industry.
- Designer Igor Yermilin worked on creating a replica of the Russo-Balt S24/58 racing car. His team managed to build the car using black-and-white photographs from the early XX century.
- The car driven by Lidiya is a 1912 American Underslung Scout.
- The recreated cars have front-mounted engines and rear-wheel drive, and exactly reproduce the engineering solutions of the originals. The wheels of the Russo-Balt were assembled using wooden components, while tires made using the technologies of that era were ordered from abroad.
