In a small Oklahoma town, charismatic Amzia King leads a bluegrass group and runs the town’s leading honey-producing business. When his adopted daughter Kateri returns, he tries to rebuild their connection and invites her to help care for the apiary as part of the family business. Kateri takes to the new work, but one day every hive is stolen.

Trivia (1)

The bees shown in the film are real, not computer-generated. While filming the scene in which thousands of bees cover Amzia’s hand, Matthew McConaughey, who plays the role, held a queen bee in his hand for almost 40 minutes so the other bees would flock to her. It was already known that the actor was allergic to bee venom, so the scene was filmed on the very last day of the shooting period.
