The observatory of Mirzo Ulugbek was built on Kohak Hill, also known as Choponota, on the bank of the Obirahmat stream. The massive three-storey cylindrical building was 30.4 metres high and included a giant quadrant with a radius of 40.2 metres. The southern part of the quadrant was underground, while the northern part rose above ground level.

A museum complex is located beside the observatory. A sculpture of Mirzo Ulugbek seated on a throne stands to the west of the observatory, with a panel depicting the starry sky on its back.
